Vivienda Latina — Historias

Amplifying Latina Voices Across Every Industry

A living archive of Latina entrepreneurs, founders, and changemakers — profiled with the depth, care, and candor their journeys deserve.

Our Mission

Why These Stories Matter

Latina women represent one of the fastest-growing entrepreneurial forces in America — yet their stories remain chronically underrepresented in mainstream media. Historias exists to close that gap. We seek out founders building in every sector, from technology and finance to food, fashion, and social impact, and we give their stories the editorial space they have always deserved. No summaries. No shortcuts. Just the full portrait of a woman who built something from the ground up.

Meet the Founders

Tech

Sofia Reyes-Mendoza

Founder & CEO

Algorítmica AI — San Francisco, CA

Sofia built Algorítmica AI after spending a decade watching bias baked into enterprise software. Her platform now audits hiring algorithms for companies across 18 countries, flagging inequity before it becomes policy. A DACA recipient, she bootstrapped her first product on a $4,000 budget.

Food & Bev

Carmen Luz Vargas

Chef-Owner

Fogón de la Abuela — Los Angeles, CA

Carmen turned her grandmother's handwritten recipe book into a three-location restaurant group and a nationally distributed line of chile pastes. Her work centers food sovereignty and employs over 80 women from Oaxacan immigrant communities in Southern California.

Fashion

Daniela Fuentes-Ríos

Creative Director & Founder

Casa Textil — New York, NY

Daniela weaves pre-Columbian textile traditions into luxury ready-to-wear, sourcing directly from artisan cooperatives in Chiapas. Her designs have appeared on the covers of four international fashion magazines and are stocked in Bergdorf Goodman and Net-a-Porter.

Raíz Media Group — Miami, FL

Andes Ventures — Chicago, IL

Real Estate

Luciana Parra-Solano

Principal Developer

Puente Properties — Houston, TX

Luciana develops mixed-income housing in communities historically bypassed by investment. Her firm has delivered over 1,200 units across Texas and Arizona, with a mandate that at least 40% of each project remains permanently affordable — without sacrificing design quality.

Beauty

Gabriela Toro-Nieves

Founder

Piel Viva Beauty — Austin, TX

Gabriela formulated her first skin-care serum in her kitchen after finding no clean-beauty products designed for deeper Latina skin tones. Piel Viva launched in 2019 and is now sold in 1,400 Ulta Beauty doors nationwide, with a waitlist that consistently exceeds 30,000 customers.

Social Impact

Ana Belén Castillo

Executive Director

Raíces Fuertes Foundation — Phoenix, AZ

Ana Belén founded Raíces Fuertes to provide legal, financial, and mental-health resources to undocumented Latinas navigating entrepreneurship. The foundation has served 14,000 women in seven states and trains a new cohort of 200 community advocates every year.

Tech

Renata Salgado-Cruz

Co-Founder & CTO

ClimaData — Denver, CO

Renata builds climate-risk modeling software that helps municipalities and insurers quantify the financial impact of extreme weather events. A former NASA data scientist, she co-founded ClimaData after her hometown in Sonora experienced its worst flood in recorded history. The company now advises 60 government agencies.

Food & Bev

Patricia Huamán

Founder & Head Distiller

Cóndor Spirits — Brooklyn, NY

Patricia is the only Peruvian-American woman distilling artisanal pisco in the United States.
